The Brown Institute for Media Innovation at the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism is offering free classes to alumni. The subjects range from introductions to R and Python, to basic mapping and data visualization, to more advanced lessons in computational journalism.

Because of the virus, an unprecedented number of employees are working from home. This has both unlocked time and promoted the widespread use of collaboration tools, making this an opportune time to spend an hour and a half or less each week learning something new. Part pedagogical, part social, these sessions are Brown’s way of supporting J-School alumni in this extraordinary time.

Classes will be led by Mark Hansen, Director of the Brown Institute, as well as Institute staff and fellows.
